Plattenkogel - Krimmls panoramic mountain

The natural monument Plattenkogelgipfel, 2039 meters above sea level

When god created the round, gentle hill of Krimmls panoramic mountain Plattenkogel, he must have thought of an observation deck for us.

In 1838 the archbishop of Salzburg, Kardinal Fürst Friedrich Schwarzenberg, was moved to leave the trail and take a trip to Plattenkogel due to the view far out into the Salzachtal valley. On his way from Krimml via Gerlospass to Gerlos he did not hesitate to enjoy the outstanding view to the fullest.

To this day, the monument near the summit „Bischof auf dem Plattenkogel“ reminds of this important visitor.

In 1933 the peak of Plattenkogel was declared as a natural monument and is one of the oldest objects of protection in Salzburg.
